Franklin Avenue Renovation Project

The eagerly anticipated renovation and expansion of the Franklin Avenue Library is nearing completion! Thanks to a $2.2 million I-JOBS grant, the renovation will include energy efficiency upgrades with a goal of reaching LEED Platinum status. Highlights of the new building, which will be nearly double the previous 14,000 square feet, will include a children's area with a windowed storytime bump out, an expanded teen area, 30 additional public internet computers, a cozy fireplace reading area, and a larger meeting room. This is the most heavily-used branch in the system, which makes it a key factor for enhancing the quality of life for thousands of people in our community.

In 2009, the library received an I-JOBS grant in the amount of $2.2 million to maximize the energy efficiency of this project. Upon completion, the Franklin Library will be the first public library to achieve Platinum LEED status. Including the grant, the total budget for this project is $8.4 million and we still have money to raise.

This is the last phase of our multi-year campaign to improve our public library system. The community's financial support has already built a legacy which will impact future generations.
