What's a "blog?"
"Blog" is short for "weblog" and is a log of a person or organization's ideas, thoughts,
services, along with photos, useful web links and any other information the blogger
would like to provide.
At DMPL, we highlight two blogs, one from our director, Saul Amdursky, and one from
our reference and adult services librarians, called Random Acts of Information. Both are
fun, friendly and informative.
What's a "wiki?"
A "wiki" is a sort of collaborative website. At Des Moines Public Library, our collaborative
website-within-a-website is our local history wiki, maintained by our librarians who are
experts in Des Moines and Iowa history. They maintain articles and images, and are always
adding new content. Stop by frequently to see what's new!
There are also great places on the web to hang out, share interests, announce events,
and make friends. Many people, especially teens, create pages on a website called MySpace
to create their own personal space with flair. Des Moines Public Library teens have their own
MySpace page featuring the copper mesh of our Central Library's famous copper windows.
There are blogs, interviews, friends, books, schools, and news of teen happenings at the
library. Stop by and become a friend!
