Carolyn Washburn is currently a vice president and editor at the Des Moines Register. She joined the newspaper in 2005, coming from her previous position of executive editor at The Idaho Statesman, where she had worked since 1993. Washburn started her career as a business reporter and business editor. She covered Oldsmobile in Lansing, Michigan and Eastman Kodak Co. in Rochester, N.Y. She was an assistant managing editor and managing editor at the Democrat and Chronicle in Rochester, New York. Twice the recipient of the President’s Ring, which recognizes the top ten editors at Gannett Company, Washburn has become widely respected and admired by her peers. She lives in Des Moines with her husband and three children.
